Camera or Viewer setup, pairing by QR or passkey, and updated relay connections in the desktop release.
Read before use: the desktop terms apply to new desktop downloads under this version, published and effective September 29, 2026. Existing preview terms and existing users' acceptance remain unchanged. Check the platform and test limits below.
Apple silicon + Intel
macOS 13 or later · build 11
Universal app, Developer ID signed, notarized and stapled. The package includes third-party notices and the required MPL component source supplement.
Verify the checksum, extract the ZIP and copy Watchtower.app to Applications. Keep the accompanying notices and sources. Do not disable macOS security or delete existing app data to bypass a prompt.
Verified on the local Mac: chooser/Viewer launch, hide and reopen, duplicate-instance handling while foreground or hidden, and clean quit/relaunch. The sealed packaged app is unchanged from the notarized build. Not claimed: physical-camera, live-network video/audio or endurance acceptance. Older Mac build 8 remains withheld and is not part of this download set.
Ubuntu 24.04 · x86-64
Linux desktop · build 8
DEB with exact notices and embedded mpv/FFmpeg and MPL sources. A usable Secret Service provider is required for credential operations.
Not qualified for ARM or older distributions. Dependencies include libc ≥2.38, t64 GTK/GLib and libplacebo338. Also obtain both separate WebRTC source files.
Verified: isolated-container clean install, same-version reinstall, native headless startup, removal and purge. Not verified: physical camera, live-peer video/audio, Wayland, hardware GPU or long-duration sessions. A cross-version upgrade is not claimed.
Not ready for distribution
Windows
No Windows download is offered. The installer route, current build, signing and exact native dependency materials remain unfinished.
Earlier private archive-playback checks are not proof of this release. Physical Windows-camera testing was waived, not passed.
Third-party software rights
Linux WebRTC component sources
The following two files together accompany the Linux package. They provide component sources, exact build configuration, managed-Python preparation and library-replacement instructions. They are not proprietary Watchtower application source. Other component sources and notices are already inside the app packages.
The retained source filename says “PRIVATE” only for historical file custody; it imposes no restriction on the included open-source license rights. The small supplement alone is not the complete source delivery.
The older SOURCE-AVAILABILITY.md inside the Linux packages says WebRTC source assembly is pending. That historical status is superseded by the complete two-file source downloads above and the release companion notes.
The successful component build and unchanged-app replacement-startup checks are documented. The convenience scripts have not been independently exercised as a fresh internet-to-artifact clean-room pipeline.
Verify before installing
Download all five exact SHA-256 checksums. The checksum paths preserve the Mac build 11 and Linux build 8 subdirectories. Compare your downloaded files with these exact values.
# macOS, in the folder containing the ZIP
shasum -a 256 Watchtower-0.1.1-build11-macos-with-notices.zip
# Ubuntu, in the folder containing the DEB
sha256sum watchtower_0.1.1-8_amd64.deb
Compare the complete 64-character result with the matching value above or in SHA256SUMS. These checks detect file changes; they do not replace signature verification or software qualification.
Do not rely on Watchtower as an emergency, security-alarm, medical, fire or life-safety service.
